For this post, I was researching case studies on the Behance website and came across this project which caught my eye.

Tverrfjellhytta: Unreal Engine

“This is a personal project in which I tried to develop my landscape generating and lighting skills. The idea was to push the ground surface to look as realistic as I possibly can with using very few elements.”- Pawel Mielnik

TVERRFJELLHYTTA: Unreal Engine film

It’s a tribute to the iconic design of Snøhetta’s Norwegian Wild Reindeer Centre Pavilion. The great architecture and beautiful landscape were a source of inspiration for me and I hope you will appreciate it too.

The architecture was inspired by the Norwegian Wild Reindeer Center Pavillion, here are some images of this, to visualize the inspiration:

What it is? What did they do and why?

Pawel Mielnik created a realistic environment in UE4 inspired by a real-world location and used his skills to create a cinematic video presenting his work. This was a personal project and he wanted to make it look as realistic as possible with using minimal elements.

What exactly you will learn from it?

I can clearly see how the project has been inspired by a real location, therefore it shows how photorealistic creating a scene in UE4 can be. I can learn how an impressive output can be achieved by only using minimal elements, and just having one major area of interest.

How it will help you with your intent and desired output?

I can use this as inspiration to create a realistic scene for future reference regarding my project and desired output.

What it does well?

This project is impressive in expressing the skill to create this output and resemblance to the original inspiration/ tribute.

Where it falls short?

Even though he does show some development imagery, he does not explain the process or development of this at all and not in enough depth, therefore it is not considered educational. The main purpose is to show off/ present his skills from this UE4 project, rather than giving a good insight into the process.

I will continue to research different case studies/ project break-downs, so that I can have a better understanding of the process.
